Improving power chip edge computing and security performance
Dr. Aglaia Kong, CEO of LeapFive Technology, was interviewed by China Energy Media
The chip is the central nervous system and intelligent brain of the digital transformation of electric power. Recently, during the 5th Electric Power Information and Communication Technology Conference, Dr. Aglaia Kong, CEO of LeapFive Technology, was interviewed by China Energy Media on the development trend of power chips and other issues.
China Energy Media: What fields are the products of LeapFive Technology mainly used in? What are the advantages?
LeapFive Technology is a company specializing in chip manufacturing. Currently, chips are mainly used in four major industries: smart energy, warehousing and logistics, smart city and smart manufacturing. The advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects: first, the chip has very low energy consumption; second, it has very powerful edge computing capabilities, which can realize timely and effective edge processing of various field data; third, the security level is high, which can ensure that the collected data is traceable and cannot be tampered with.
In the field of electric power, LeapFive Technology’s chips have been widely used in power inspection drones, transmission line monitoring terminals and other scenarios. In the inspection drone scene, due to the small size and low power consumption of our chip, it can be easily placed in the inspection drone, and the inspection data of the drone can also be processed directly on board.
In various edge intelligent terminals that monitor the line environment of the power grid high-voltage tower and judge whether there are faults such as mountain fire, ice disaster, intrusion, etc. The LeapFive Technology’s chip can support the local processing of image data collected by the terminal to find out where the problem is, and promptly notify the backend staff for disposal. This requires the terminal chips to have the characteristics of high computing power and low energy consumption, because these terminals cannot draw power from the line and can only be powered by solar energy.
To meet the differentiated requirements of chip performance in different scenarios of the power system, LeapFive Technology has developed three chip platforms, from low-end to mid-end to high-end, to meet the application of different scenarios.
China Energy Media: To comply with the trend of digital transformation of the economy and society and build the sustainable core competitiveness of enterprises, LeapFive Technology has carried out scientific and technological innovation, and what results have been achieved?
First is the research on data local processing. The digital society generates massive amounts of data every day. If all these data are transmitted back to the cloud through the network, a strong communication network and cloud architecture are required to support them, and they cannot respond in time. Therefore, when we tackle key problems in chip technology, we regard the edge computing capability of chips as an important breakthrough direction and have achieved remarkable results to realize local data processing.
Secondly, under the goal of “dual carbon”, how to convert the collected data into useful data and ensure that the data cannot be tampered becomes an important demand, so we regard security as another important direction of chip technology research, and add many security functions to the chip, and uses blockchain technology to ensure that data cannot be tampered with and traceable.
Finally, for many special application scenarios and environments such as the power industry, how to make chips achieve ultra-low energy consumption is an important innovation direction. In addition, realizing the independent and controllable localization of chips is an important proposition, which will help us solve supply chain problems.
China Energy Media: As the digital transformation of electricity continues to progress, what direction will Leapfrog Technology take in the construction of hardware and software systems in the next phase?
With the digital transformation of power and the accelerated construction of new power systems, LeapFive Technology will focus on the following development directions in the future.
First is how to respond to the needs of power grid control anytime and anywhere. Power grid peak regulation and flexible use of green energy are important foundations for building a new power system. To do this well, it is inseparable from the response of various hardware and software. This requires the scheduling chip to have strong computing power and needs to provide a software platform. This software platform is provided by us whether it is from the operating system to the BSP to the entire tool chain. The hardware and software requirements need to be closely integrated, so this is a general direction we are focusing on.
In addition, we believe that virtual power plants are a very important trend in the future, and our chips and systems have inherent advantages in the field of virtual power plants.
Finally, we hope to help enterprises join the carbon trading platform through our products and solutions, as well as to serve the implementation of the “dual carbon” goal.
